The RAKU Process...

"The RAKU kiln is heated to over 1900 degrees F. The work is then picked up via RAKU tongs and transferred to the combustion chamber. This chamber is filled with a mixture of Straw, Leaves and Recycled Newspaper. The combustibles will ignite upon contact with the red-hot clay pieces. This is where the piece obtains its unique unpredictable array of colors and fire patterns.
